⭐ Success Stories:
During the 2023 holiday season, Empowering Lives with a Purpose sponsored two families from
diverse backgrounds, providing personalized gifts for each family member. One student’s
request for a musical instrument led to a meaningful opportunity to pursue their passion for
music. In addition, the organization partnered with the University of Houston–Downtown’s
Basic Needs Center in 2023 to extend holiday support to other disadvantaged children, furthering
its mission to bring hope and joy to those in need.

As a school principal, I have had the privilege of partnering with Jamaal
Lathan and his nonprofit organization, Empowering Lives with a Purpose for
several years. I’ve seen firsthand the powerful impact he’s made on our
students and families. His unwavering commitment to serving the community
is evident in every program he brings to our campus.
One of the most meaningful events he’s lead is the annual backpack
giveaway. For many of our families, this isn’t just about receiving
supplies, it’s about feeling supported and seen. Watching students start the
school year with everything they need, and with a renewed sense of
confidence, has been incredibly heartening. This simple but powerful gesture,
led by Jamaal and his team, sets a positive tone for the entire academic year.
In addition, Jamaal Lathan has been instrumental in motivating our students
to succeed on the STAAR test. Through targeted encouragement, mentorship,
and creative incentives, he’s helped turn what can be a stressful season into
an opportunity for growth and pride. His ability to connect with students,
especially those who need an extra push, has made a real difference in their
academic mindset and performance.
Empowering Lives with a Purpose is more than a community partner, they
are champions for our children. Their dedication, compassion, and
consistency have left a lasting mark on our school, and I am truly grateful for
their continued support.

School District has evolved into a far-reaching movement—now impacting thousands within
Houston ISD and beyond. At our core is a steadfast belief: every child deserves the tools and
opportunity to succeed, no matter their background.
